What are Piles?

Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen blood vessels in and around the rectum and anus that can cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding. These enlarged veins can occur inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids) or under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids).

Types of Hemorrhoids

Internal Hemorrhoids:

• Located inside the rectum

• Usually painless but may bleed

• Can prolapse or protrude outside the anal opening

External Hemorrhoids:

• Found under the skin around the anus

• Can be painful and itchy

• May develop blood clots (thrombosed hemorrhoids)

• Bright red blood during bowel movements

• Itching or irritation in the anal area

• Pain or discomfort

• Swelling around the anus

• A lump near the anus

• Mucus discharge
